P R O U D is an understatement. Last year, I collaborated with 3 good friends and colleagues to put together “A Year in Reverse”. This event was a fully immersive art experience including visual art, music, dance, and spoken word. Here’s the clip of the section that I choreographed. A Year in Reverse was a story of experiences and emotions from 2020 and the pandemic. I am beyond thankful.

This show was inspired by a conversation that we were having where we were sharing what 2020 was like using one word. My word was anger. Everyone had something that they were angry about in 2020. Whether it was lockdown, the reinforcement of vaccines and masks, the killing of black people, or the government – everyone was angry. This is what inspired “S.C.R.E.A.M.” The title is a loose acronym for Silenced Cries of Rage of the Exploited, Abused, and Marginalized. This piece tells the story of how we are all connected but as we notice our differences we drift apart. We develop insecurities, anger, resentment, and more as it leads to misunderstanding and division. We all have our battles and we all hurt. If we could let those things drive us closer to connecting and expressing empathy, the world could be a much better place.

β‘ Not only did we sell out both nights but we got to share our stories. To every single person that attended, thank you for graciously receiving and accepting my story. It was so hard to share this with the public. β‘ To our amazing dancers, thank you. Thank you for putting up with my silliness and shenanigans at rehearsals. π But also thank you for trusting me and telling my story so beautifully.
β‘ Thank you to every individual who made this show. A huge thank you to Liz from Archway Gallery for the use of the space, your time, and your resources. Thank you @wrdmtcn for your amazing poetic skills and for reminding us of how precious each breath is. @ichikara_valdez Thank you so much for providing the music for our show and setting the vibe. You are such a cool dude to work with.

β‘ To the Collective Four, I love yall beyond words. Thank you for always inspiring me. You always remind me of my worth and my voice and for that, I am eternally grateful. I feel so seen and understood and that is one of the best feelings in the world. I literally couldn’t have done this project with anyone else. Yall we did the damn thang!!!! Ahhh!ππππ β‘ Thank you GOD!!! If I would have had it my way, I wouldn’t even be here sharing this with you but GOD! 2020 was a very tough year for me and I am just grateful to be here on the other side of it. Oh and thank you for making one of my dreams come true. π₯° This is for little Stormie.
