“I am thankful for all of those who said NO to me. Its because of them, I’m doing it myself.” ~ Albert Einstein
Happy Tuesday sweetie pies! When adulting gets me down – I often have flashbacks from college. I begin to reminisce on stepping, all nighters, standing in line at Starbucks, hanging in the student union and 3 hour dance rehearsals. I have mentioned in several posts including How to Pick the Best Sorority for You, 6 Things I Learned from my Freshman Year and How to Survive your First Semester of College about lessons I learned not only for college but for life. Even though I believe that I made the absolute most of my years, I definitely have a few things on my reverse bucket list. A reverse bucket list is a list of things that you wish you would’ve done. Most of these I have never shared with anyone but hopefully it will inspire any college students reading to do something new and challenging this school year.
1. Getting Involved in Student Government
Student government is such a crucial part of student life in my opinion. You gain new skills, make new friends and learn about your university. Plus you get to shake hands with some of the most important figures at your college. Those lifelong connections will definitely be worth your while.
2. Joining a Spirit Group
I loved dancing on the Repertory Dance Ensemble but I do think about what if I would’ve joined a spirit group. I believe the main reason why it even came to mind was because I was on the dance team in high school. When join a spirit group, you develop a sense of school spirit and feeling of community that is unfathomable. Sometimes I miss that feeling from high school but then have to remind myself that it was just that – high school.
3. Starting my Blog while I was still in School
I firmly believe that I would be in a different place in life. I feel like upon graduating college, I would’ve been blogging full time. I definitely wish I would’ve knew more about blogging then. Honestly, I didn’t know much about the blogger world until post graduation when I saw a blogger post on Instagram. I definitely think about this one all the time.
4. Take my Academics more Seriously
As I have mentioned in previous posts, during my freshman year I had a very relaxed mindset when it came to school. I remember failing my first test, my first class! It was so scary and so frustrating because I knew I was better than that. Even if it was because I was getting in my own way.
5. Taking a Canoe Ride in the Bayou
Okay so this one can’t be generalized because it is based on the bayou that runs through my Alma Mater’s campus – Bayou Desiard. There was a place on campus where you could rent a boat and paddle on the water. It was always on my bucket list – just never made around to it.
6. Take Advantage of Academic Opportunities
I wish I would’ve taken advantage of more academic opportunities. That study abroad trip. That internship. That honor society. Anything that could expand my horizons and educate me. I definitely wish I would’ve taken advantage of those experiences and soaked them up like a sponge.
This is my reverse bucket list. Alums, do you have anything on your reverse bucket list? Maybe you never spoke to that girl in Psyc 1001. Or perhaps you never changed your major in hopes of landing your dream job post graduation. Whatever it is, I would love to know your thoughts below! Much love to all of my college readers out there! I am praying for a successful and prosperous semester for you!
As always, XO and Stay FAB! ~ Stormie J
