“To practice any art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow. So do it.” ~ Kurt Vonnegut
Hey sweetie pies! Happy Monday, #1 most dreaded day of the week for most people. Just to be honest, today has been quite a day for me and somewhat stressful. (I don’t want to get into too many details because that’s not the point for today’s post.) But despite having a rough day, I managed to stay relaxed and not get too worked up. Believe it or not, relaxing is something that comes hard for me. I am a “yes” person. I honestly overwork myself. I will go over and beyond for everyone. It’s hard for me (and other people for that matter) to tell me to slow down. But over the years I have adopted some practices if you will that I want to share with you guys. These different things help me to unwind, refocus, rejuvenate, and de-stress.
1. Prayer/Devotion
Reality dose, I am not always this happy go-lucky person you see on my blog. I get stressed or feel depressed from time to time. Or I am sometimes battling a mental battle and need a renewal of my mind and spirit. That is when the Word comes into play. I have a teen bible (don’t judge) that provides a guide for different issues such as stress, temptation, etc and it suggests different scriptures based off of the issue. It is very helpful and brings me a peace of mind.
2. Aromatherapy
I love love love the scent of lavender and I believe that it really relaxes me. I will often light my aromatherapy candle in my bedroom at night for a while before I go to bed. I also keep some lavender essential oil in my purse that I will take a few breaths of or dab on my wrists. I also will sometimes throw a few drops in my bath water along with some epsom salt.
3. Treat Yourself!
Now I honestly do believe that retail therapy should be covered under health insurance. Lolz But in all seriousness, treat yourself! Whether that is some yummy dessert, a spa night, or a night out with your girls. Spoil yourself!
4. Coloring Book
If you haven’t jumped on the coloring book train, you may want to! Even if you’re not an expert “color-er??” you can still enjoy this! I don’t get to do this too often but I love it when I do. I personally like the kaleidoscope color books and the mandala color books.
5. Get Organized!
Surprisingly, all you may need is to organize your life and your living space. You would be surprised by what having a clutter free living space can do for your mental head space. And if you have a clean and organized life and living space you can think more clearly. More than likely, a reason why you may find yourself getting stressed is because you can never find anything or always rushing and scrambling to get things together last minute. Get your lives organized!
6. Exercise
Not only is it good for the body, but it can help release tension that you may have. Make sure you get organized and make time to work out regularly! When you work out, you will release endorphins. As the great Elle Woods said, “Endorphins make you happy. Happy people don’t shoot their husbands….. They just don’t.” Lolz Your body and mind will thank you.
7. Meditation/Headspace App
I have been trying to work on meditating. You would be surprised at how hard it is to quiet your mind. Especially if you’re a deep thinker like your girl here. But I love this app called Headspace which assists you with 10 min meditation exercises. I love it! It is available for iPhone and Android users and it’s free! Get into it you guys!
8. Dance
I put dance here because that’s what applies for me but honestly, any activity that requires creativity is a good fit. Dance is great for me because it is something that I love and I am passionate about. It requires me to forget everything and focus on just that, dance. Sometimes the best way to gain refocus is to completely lose focus temporarily….. if that makes any sense at all.
9. REST!
Sometimes we just need a good nap or a full night’s rest. You are ultimately putting your body through torture if you are going twice as hard as the day prior and not giving your body (and mind) a break! It is not healthy!!! Make sure to get yourself some rest or your body will slow down and tell you! Our bodies have numerous unique ways of telling us that the body is overworked varying from different body pains and the way our senses began reacting to stimuli around us. So long story short, GO TO BED AT NIGHT! Lolz
10. Learn if/when to let things go!
If this one ain’t the truth! I used to get so worked up over EVERY. SINGLE. THING. I was a hot stressful mess! Don’t allow yourself to get so consumed over thoughts about things especially if it’s not that serious. Most things in life are NOT worth stressing over. Learn when things no longer serve you anymore in a positive life. Whether that’s people, situations, circumstances, whatever… let. it. go. I try to stand firm on the concept that I won’t let people who do little or nothing for me stress me out. It sounds a lot easier than done, especially if you’re a very passionate person like I am. I am still learning and practicing these things DAILY.
I hope that these tips helped you all! What tip(s) are you going to try? Any relaxation tips of your own? Share in the comment section below!
So it’s #NationalMargaritaDay so throw one (or 5) back and enjoy! Cheers to an awesome (and stress-free) week!
As always, XO and Stay FAB! ~ Stormie
