Style 101 : Using Media for Style Inspiration

“For just one second, look at your life and see how perfect it is. Stop looking for the next secret door that is going to lead you to your real life. This is it: there’s nothing else. It’s here, and you’d better decide to enjoy it or you’re going to be miserable wherever you go, for the rest of your life, forever.” ~ Lev Grossman
Hey sweetie pies! TGIF! Whoop Whoop! There are so many ways to find inspiration for your personal style. Especially with social media sites such as Pinterest and Instagram leading the way with such awe-inspiring images. But I want to share with you the several different ways that you can use media to inspire you to define your personal style. Be mindful that I said inspire and not take because remember your style should be a reflection of you, not someone else.
1. Magazines
There are so so many magazines out there, especially ones that cater to style and fashion. It is best to browse through them at Walmart before you buy them. I personally don’t purchase every magazine that I come across. (Where would I keep all of those?) My personal favorite magazine is People Style Watch. I feel that it caters well to women of all sizes, which of course is awesome. I am continuously inspired from the style articles to the featured bloggers.
2. Bloggers
Yes I am a blogger myself and yes I shamelessly stalk other bloggers! I honestly enjoy looking at other bloggers’ sites, Instagram and YouTube accounts. (I watch YouTube like it’s TV! Anyone else guilty of doing that as well! I won’t judge. 😉 ) Bloggers are some of the most creative and fashion-forward individuals out there in my opinion. (I know I sound very biased right now, but it’s the truth!)
3. Instagram
Omg I can easily get lost in the world with all of the awesomeness posted daily on Instagram. Another awesome thing about Instagram is that it’s no longer just about that #OOTD but there is also inspiration for interior decorating, beauty, music, art, you name it! I personally like that when you follow someone, Instagram will suggest 3 accounts similar to who you just followed. You are then introduced to new accounts that can be great for inspiration. A lot of bloggers and social media specialists are now going over and beyond with amazing photos. Yeah the good old selfie with a Valencia filter thrown over it just will not do. A lot of the awesome profiles with beautiful photos went through quite a process to get the double-tap that took half of a millisecond to do. (Crazy when  you think about it that way right?) But seriously there are several apps available out there to edit and create Swoon-worthy images. (Some of my favorite VSCO, Facetune, and Snapseed)
4. Pinterest
Who has logged on to Pinterest started looking around and then realized that several hours have passed? (Slowly raises hand…) Lolz We are all guilty at one point in time or another. Whether it is a mean apple pie recipe or how to wear dresses when it’s cold out, there is inspiration for EVERYTHING on Pinterest. You can literally type in the search box whatever you’re looking for and find endless options. Yeah Pinterest is pretty awesome, convenient, and cookie cutter as you want to be.
5. Facebook
Facebook is somewhat similar to Pinterest in the aspect that you can find pretty much anything on Facebook. Another thing that is pretty awesome is that a lot of brands and bloggers have pages where they are consistently putting content out there for their readers. I have been loving articles that have been shared by Elle magazine and Harper’s Bazaar on Facebook. Love love love!
6. People
I am a creative being. I thrive best when I am in a creative environment and/or when I am being creative. I usually look at most things in an artistic creative way. The way people dress is no different. I love it when I am at Starbucks, (which if you follow me on Snapchat then you know I am always there lolz) and I just watch the people that come and go. I love genuinely going to public places and “people watching”. Some may find it creepy, but I am just simply taking in my environment and being inspired by it. I love it when I can get a feel for someone’s personality based off of just what they’re wearing. It makes me happy and inspires me. You may be pleasantly surprised from what you observe and take from other people.
Ok sweetie pies, I hope this was helpful and a joy to read. I enjoyed writing this post for you. Cheers to an awesome and stylish week.
As always, XO and Stay FAB! ~ Stormie
